Ness Knight

Ness Knight is a record-breaking explorer and endurance adventurer.

Traversing some of the most diverse terrains in all corners of the planet, Ness has overcome huge obstacles and extreme conditions in remote environments.

Ness’ adventure career began in 2012 when she quit her 9-to-5 job and set off to paddleboard over 1,000 miles down the Missouri River.

Furthermore, this challenge was the longest stand-up paddleboard journey by any female.

The expedition tested both mind and body as Ness faced searing heat, unforgiving headwinds, electrical storms, hypothermia and battled the wildly unpredictable waters of a raging, unruly river.

Ness has since completed several other expeditions, including:

• Cycled solo and unsupported 2000 miles across the USA:

A spontaneous expedition, Ness set off within days without owning any of the necessary equipment.

A plan was hatched on a shoestring budget, which would see Ness borrowing an old pair of men’s shoes (two sizes too big), buying a rusty bike (older than she was) and being given a pair of crumbing red panniers from the 1960s.

• First female in history to swim the length of the Thames River:

An endurance feat that saw Ness battle with the mental fatigue and weaknesses that come with 10 hours of solitude every day.

In addition, she fought off illness through most of the expedition as ‘Thames Tummy’ caused violent cramps and vomiting.

• 15 Marathons back-to-back:

Ness completed 15 marathons in 15 days, from London to Land’s End, completing this gruelling 400-mile challenge.

• Bolivia Cycle expedition:

This expedition came with a unique twist, as Ness was travelling with no money whatsoever, relying simply on her resourcefulness to find food and a safe location to camp overnight

The expedition opened Ness’ eyes to a world that so many people on our planet experience every day, one that is stripped bare of the comfort of having a safe, warm place to sleep at night, with the knowledge that having one meal a day is good fortune, not a given.

• Namib Desert solo fatbike expedition:

This expedition saw Ness traverse one of the most desolate, hot and inhospitable environments in the world – solo.

In such an unforgiving and extreme wilderness, Ness was tested to her absolute limits physically and mentally.

• Essequibo River expedition:

In April 2018, she completed a world-first “source to sea” descent of the Essequibo River in Guyana, the third-largest river in South America.

Ness Knight – The next challenge…

Ness will be setting out to break a new world record, this time taking on the vast Pacific Ocean, aiming to become the first female in history to row solo, non-stop and unassisted across the Pacific, from North America to Australia.

She won’t be setting foot on land for the 7000 miles and 6-9 months of rowing between the two continents.
