Frank Carson - Comedian and After-Dinner Speaker
How would you describe comedy in its purest form? To put it quite simply, it's a combination of a good joke, well told.
Remind you of anything? Here's a couple of clues; "It's a cracker" and "It's the way I tell 'em".
For some performers, 'comedian' is a job description. For Frank Carson, it's his species.
Frank Carson in full flow is truly something to behold. Ruthless with his delivery, unrelenting in his gags-per-minute ratio, this is a constant barrage of tall tales and short one-liners that keeps an audience's laughter levels revved up to the max. Resistance is futile. Just sit back and enjoy.
Born in Belfast, November 1926 Frank Carson is a living comedy legend.
Having been three times outright winner of the granddaddy of new talent shows, Opportunity Knocks, Frank Carson rose to fame via the BBC's classic variety show, The Good Old Days, Granada TV's seminal series The Comedians. A record-breaking tour followed, plus other television shows including The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club
Since those halcyon days, Frank Carson has become one of the most televised comedians in Britain, with appearances on a long list of top-rated shows, not least of which was the 1992 Royal Variety Performance. He has also received the compliment of being the subject of This Is Your Life a programme which holds the record for the longest period of silence on record from a stunned Frank!
As Spike Milligan so aptly quoted "What's the difference between Frank Carson and the M1?... You can turn off the M1!"
Despite his TV fame, Frank Carson has continued to tour the live circuit and has appeared as far a field as Australia, Canada, Europe and both the Middle and Far East. As if this does not keep him busy enough, he also finds time for numerous charities.
Frank Carson is a hard worker for many charities and good causes ranging from his Captaincy of the Variety Club of Great Britain Golfing Society, to the raising of £130,000 for the Belfast Royal Victoria Hospital Children's Cancer Ward.
His work for communities and charities saw him receive one of the greatest honours in the Catholic Church in 1987 when His Holiness the Pope knighted Frank into the order of St Gregory in a private audience in Rome.
Quite simply, Frank Carson is a comedy legend... and, boy, can he tell 'em!
Recent Testimonial:
Just wanted to drop a short note to say a massive thank you for helping to make our recent sales event truly memorable. Anticipation had built up throughout the day as to who our mystery entertainer could be. I don't think anyone was disappointed when you entered the room and proceeded to reduce the audience to tears. Two days after the event, some of the jokes are still coming back to me! Thanks again Frank - it was a craaaa-cker! David Tinker - Halifax Bank of Scotland.
