Joseph Gelfer PhD is an author and keynote speaker focusing on men and masculinity.
Joseph’s interest in masculinity comes from two distinct sources. First, the general emergency that comes from being a father of three. Second, undertaking academic research and exploring how this can be applied to everyday lives.
The aim of Joseph’s work is to understand how masculinity impacts society, for the good and the bad, and challenging people to think differently about masculinity in order to achieve a more sustainable future for men and women alike. He has undertaken this activity in contexts as diverse as the Business & Professional Women’s Network through to psychedelic trance parties in the Australian bush.
Joseph Gelfer is the author of several books about masculinity, the most recent of which is Masculinities in a Global Era, published by Springer Science + Business Media. He is also creator of the online video-based course, Future Masculinity, available on the Udemy learning platform. Joseph has featured on radio and TV networks including BBC, Sky, ABC and SBS.
“The intelligence he brings to his subject is often upstaged by his witty writing and wicked turns of phrase, although this is not a complaint – Gelfer’s writing is clear and highly engaging”
Journal for the Academic Study of Religion
“Gelfer is not interested in providing the reader with comfortable assurances of what men have been and always will be. He is clearly more interested in introducing disquiet in terms of liberating thinking from fixed, essential, and permanent definitions of masculinity”
“This book breaks new ground. The subject matter is bound to elicit controversy, but one that must be faced with humble courage for the sake of fostering human solidarity and ecological sustainability”
As a keynote speaker, Joseph’s topics include:
- How masculinity effects your particular industry/sector/organisation.(bespoke topic).
- Masculinity and Employee Engagement: How masculinity effects employee engagement and business sustainability.
- The Masculinity Conspiracy: What if the biggest conspiracy in human history has gone unnoticed? What if that conspiracy was responsible for some of the biggest problems the world faces today?
- Future Masculinity: Helps both men and women understand how masculinity functions in contemporary society, and how it can be re-imagined for a sustainable future.
