Bonnie Tyler

Influenced by the music of Janis Joplin and Tina Turner, Gaynor Hopkins originally sang with a local group called Bobby Wayne and the Dixies, she later formed her own band, calling it Imagination. Gaynor adopted different stage names until settling on Bonnie Tyler. For nearly a decade she and her band performed at pubs and nightclubs all over South Wales.

Bonnie Tyler first entered the pop charts in 1976, with Lost in France reaching the Top 10 of the British charts. The success of Lost in France led Tyler to record her first album in 1977 - The World Starts Tonight.

In 1978, her next single, It's A Heartache, made the No.1 position in 6 countries, peaked at No. 4 on the UK charts, went to No. 3 on the US pop charts, and made No.10 on the US country charts.

In 1982 her album, Faster Than the Speed of Night proved to be a huge hit and the single Total Eclipse of the Heart, topped the charts, remaining at No.1 for 4 weeks. Faster Than the Speed of Night shot straight into the UK album charts at No.1, making Bonnie the first ever female artist to have achieved this.

In 1984, Bonnie released the single Holding Out for a Hero from the Footloose soundtrack; the song reached No. 34 on the U.S. Hot 100, making it Tyler's third top-40 U.S. hit. The albums Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fire, Notes from America and Hide Your Heart followed.

In the early 1990s, Tyler recorded the album Bitterblue. This album went quadruple-platinum in Norway, platinum in Austria and gold in Germany, Switzerland, and Sweden, amongst other countries. Bonnie followed up with Angel Heart the album repeated the success of Bitterblue and showered Bonnie with more gold and platinum records.

In 2004, the young French singer Kareen Antonn approached Bonnie to record a duet. Si Demain, their French language version of Total Eclipse of the Heart, was released in January 2004 and went to No. 1 in France, Belgium, and Poland, selling two millions copies all over world.

Bonnie continues to release albums and tour the world with her band.
